As a Botox® alternative, Dysport offers unique characteristics that patients may want to consider when treating glabellar lines between the eyes. At Vein & Body Specialists, we offer this and other injectable treatments to individuals living in Norwalk, Sandusky, Fremont, and the nearby areas of Ohio.
What is Dysport?
Dysport is an injectable neuromodulator made with the botulinum toxin, similar to Botox. Dysport works by temporarily relaxing the facial muscles responsible for causing facial wrinkles. As they relax, the wrinkles smooth out, leaving patients with a more youthful appearance. Dysport is FDA-approved for treating glabellar lines, also known as frown lines, which occur between the eyebrows.
Am I a Candidate for Dysport?
Dysport is ideal if you are desiring a minimally invasive treatment to address moderate to severe vertical glabellar (frown) lines between the eyebrows. Since dynamic lines are created by frequent movements, they can become visible in younger patients and make you appear sad, mad, or tired. Dysport is a fast, efficient treatment that smoothes dynamic lines without giving you an unnatural facial appearance. Since Dysport's formula spreads to reach a group of wrinkles, it is also excellent for lines around your eyes.
What Is the Difference Between Botox and Dysport?
Although Dysport is similar to Botox, some key differences must be considered. First, Dysport is only approved for treating glabellar lines, while Botox is approved for a broader range of treatment options. Second, Dysport typically has a faster onset than Botox, although Botox produces results that last a little longer. Lastly, Dysport is a more diluted formula. This makes the body react to injections with Dysport differently than Botox. At Vein & Body Specialists, we understand the differences between these two formulas and how they will impact your final results. During your consultation, we’ll consider your goals and help you identify the best treatment for you.

How Is Dysport Administered?
The Dysport formula is injected into the area between the eyebrows using a very fine needle. A numbing agent can be applied before treatment to minimize any possible discomfort, although most patients do not find it necessary. The number of injections will depend on the severity of your wrinkles and your particular cosmetic goals. Treatment takes less than 30 minutes to complete. Afterward, there is no downtime, and you can immediately return to your normal activities. You may experience some temporary redness, swelling, or bruising from the injections, which typically fade within a few days.
What Results Can I Expect From Dysport?
After Dysport injections, you may not notice results until the Dysport formula takes full effect, which typically begins 3 – 4 days after treatment. You can expect to see the final results from Dysport injections within a week. You can expect the results to last about 3 – 4 months, wherein additional Dysport treatments can be performed to maintain your results.

What's the difference between Dysport and BOTOX?
Both BOTOX and Dysport are safe and effective in improving dynamic wrinkles. Dysport results typically develop quicker than BOTOX. Additionally, Dysport results tend to last longer than other wrinkle relaxers, and it spreads to a larger coverage area. During your initial consultation, your injector will determine if Dysport or BOTOX is better for your treatment.
Should I get Dysport or a wrinkle filler?
Many people don't understand the different uses for wrinkle relaxers and wrinkle fillers. A wrinkle relaxer corrects dynamic wrinkles, whereas a dermal filler addresses static lines. Dynamic wrinkles are caused by repetitive motions, for example, smiling, laughing, frowning, and all of your other facial expressions. Dysport relaxes the creased muscle under the skin to smooth the dynamic wrinkle. Static lines are the result of low skin elasticity, so a wrinkle filler plumps the skin so it looks smooth. During your initial consult, your injector will listen to your concerns and goals to help you choose if a wrinkle relaxer like Dysport, a dermal filler, or a combination of both will deliver your desired outcome.
How often should I get Dysport injections?
Dysport injection results can last 3 – 4 months. During your initial consultation, your injector will recommend how often you should get injections at our office to maintain your results. You might want to get treatments more often or wait longer once you know how Dysport works on your wrinkles.
