What Is Varithena?

Varithena is an FDA-approved polidocanol injectable foam used for treating varicose veins. Varithena, also known as microfoam chemical ablation, is injected into the problematic areas of your varicose veins. The microfoam fills and collapses the veins, allowing blood flow to shift to healthier veins.

What Can I Expect from Varithena Treatment?

The doctor will insert a small needle or catheter tube into the area to be treated. The Varithena microfoam will fill and collapse the targeted veins under ultrasonic guidance. When the veins collapse, blood flow will move to healthier veins nearby. The entire procedure usually takes under an hour, and patients can typically return to light activity the same day. Many of our patients require only one treatment to achieve desired results. Like sclerotherapy, veins will begin to disappear in a few days and fade away entirely within eight weeks, with some patients seeing full results in as soon as one week.
