What To Do Before Your BOTOX Treatment
10/1/2022
BOTOX is the undisputed king of lunchtime cosmetic procedures – with just a few minutes, you can combat wrinkles and resume your daily activities. However, there are still a few things you should do to prepare for your BOTOX appointment and optimize your results. Here’s what you need to know!
WHAT SHOULD I DO 24 HOURS BEFORE BOTOX?
24 hours before your BOTOX treatment, you should avoid any products or activities that might be a detriment to your safety or your treatment results. This includes:
- Avoid alcoholic beverages
- Alcohol can increase the risk of bleeding and bruising during treatment.
- Avoid waxing, tweezing and hair removal products
- Avoid aspirin, ibuprofen, and similar drugs
- These medications are blood thinners, which can increase the risk of bleeding and bruising. If you require pain medications, use Tylenol.
- Avoid sun exposure
- Sunburnt skin can be sensitive, causing complications and pain during treatment.
WHAT SHOULD YOU NOT EAT BEFORE BOTOX?
In addition to alcohol, caffeinated items and other snacks that cause dehydration should be avoided before BOTOX. This includes items that are particularly salty. Conversely, it can be a good idea to drink plenty of water leading up to your BOTOX treatment.
WHAT SHOULD YOU DO THE DAY YOU GET BOTOX?
As long as you have followed the pre-treatment guidelines, you can go into your BOTOX appointment stress-free. You should continue avoiding many of the prohibited activities and items after your BOTOX treatment, as they can still impact your healing process after injections are performed. Stay hydrated, protect yourself from sun exposure and avoid the aforementioned drugs and medications. Additionally, avoid rubbing or touching the treatment area, as well as strenuous exercise, for a few hours after treatment, as these can worsen swelling and other side effects.
WHAT ELSE DO I NEED TO KNOW FOR MY FIRST BOTOX APPOINTMENT?
As long as you understand the pre-treatment and post-treatment care for BOTOX, there’s not much else you need to know for your first appointment. As a reminder, BOTOX can take a few days to take effect. While side effects should subside within a few days, it can take up to a week for the final results of your BOTOX treatment to become visible. These results can last up to 6 months, but patients can receive follow-up treatments to extend these results.
