Does Coolsculpting® Really Work?

CoolSculpting® is an innovative and effective fat procedure that is taking the cosmetic medical community by storm. Seen as an alternative to traditional fat loss procedures like liposuction, CoolSculpting® is noninvasive and nonsurgical with zero recovery time. But does CoolSculpting® live up to the hype or is this procedure too good to be true?

CoolSculpting® essentially works by freezing and killing the fat cells in problem areas of the body. A procedure known as cryolipolysis, a roll of fat is placed into two panels that cool the fat to freezing temperatures. After treatment, frozen, dead fat cells are excreted from the body through the liver within several weeks, with full effects being seen within three months. Cryolipolysis has been proven to reduce treated fat layers by as much as 25%.

Usually, those who choose CoolSculpting® treatment choose to treat several body areas, such as the thighs, lower back, belly, and/or sides. CoolSculpting® can also reduce the appearance of cellulite on the legs, buttocks, and arms and may be useful to reduce excess fat underneath the chin.

CoolSculpting® targets a specific demographic of people who desire fat loss. It is not a treatment for obesity but a useful procedure to help remove small amounts of fat tissue that are resistant to traditional weight loss attempts like diet and exercise. In addition, while a safe and effective procedure, there are some people who should not try CoolSculpting® as certain conditions increase the risk of dangerous complications. If you suffer from cryoglobulinemia, cold agglutinin disease, or paroxysmal cold hemoglobinuria (PCH), you are not an eligible candidate for the treatment.

Recall that the CoolSculpting® process entails killing off fat cells. That being said, once dead, these fat cells do not return, and therefore, your results should last indefinitely! However, it should be noted that if you gain weight after your treatment, it is still possible to gain fat back in the treated area.

CoolSculpting® is nonsurgical, noninvasive, and requires no recovery time, unlike traditional liposuction procedures. You are able to drive yourself home after treatments and immediately return to your daily activities.
